Uber + Abby Wambach
In partnership with Uber, me and my team at COPA90 developed, produced, and distributed a three-part series featuring US soccer icon Abby Wambach in discussion with former teammates and fellow icons, Mia Hamm and Julie Foudy, the women behind the creative entrepreneurial brand, SoccerGrlProbs, and small business owner, Jubilee Gamaniel.
In this series Abby leads a discussion on the barriers women face when seeking career advancement and what can be done to close the gender gap to make a level playing field.
A special, but largely unseen component to this project was our behind-the-scenes decision to hire an all female camera crew. Anyone who's been on a film set knows that directors, DPs, camera operators, gaffers, lighting and sound techs are roles typically filled by men. Our decision to hire women into those roles was immediately noticed by Abby - she comments in episode one, “I noticed [immediately]. I could just feel it. The energy is just different.” In response Julie poses the question, “[They say], ‘We can’t fill these positions with women.’ Well, where are you looking? It’s [an unfortunate] human issue that we only go with what we know.”
